Blake Lewis wants you to dance!
American Idol’s season 6 runner-up will release his second album, Heartbreak on Vinyl, on Oct. 6 via Tommy Boy Entertainment. Shifting from pop-rock to dance-pop, Lewis says his new album, “the culmination of over 10 years in the dance scene,” will be “filled with electro pop goodness with melodies I cherish.”
Currently in the studio finishing the record, Lewis called on producers Rodney Jerkins (who’s worked with Britney Spears and Lady Gaga) and Dave Aude (who’s worked with the Pussycat Dolls) to craft his new high-energy sound.
“The music in the dance scene gets me out onto the dance floor to lose my inhibition,” Lewis says of the inspiration behind his new project. “The title is an ode to all the record stores that have been closing down due to my industry eating itself. These are the stores that brought inspiration to all of us music lovers and have led me to make the music I create today.”

The album’s first single, Sad Song, is scheduled to hit radio in July and will become available first to fans through an exclusive ringtone download via the Blake Lewis Official Fan Club.
"Heartbreak On Vinyl is the culmination of over 10 years in the dance scene -- the music that gets me out onto the dance floor to lose my inhibition," said Lewis. "The title is an ode to all the record stores that have been closing down due to my industry eating itself. "Blake Lewis has the distinction of not only one of the most amazing voices I have ever worked with, but his songwriting and general musical ability on guitar, keys and as a human beatbox combined with his love of new technology and DJ culture makes him uniquely qualified as the rebel American Idol,” said Tom Silverman, Founder and CEO of Tommy Boy Entertainment. “Blake is the most well-known Tommy Boy artist since James Brown. I can’t walk down the street with him without stopping traffic -- but most amazing is the songs he created for this album, the best of which he co-wrote in under 90 minutes and they are out-of-the-park home runs. Blake Lewis is one Idol who will stand the test of time."
Most recently, Lewis has been busy making appearances across the country. His cover of Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name, was the biggest selling download of the season on iTunes with over 190,000 downloads. His debut album Audio Day Dream hit the Billboard album charts at #10 and has since sold over 350,000 units to date. Blake Lewis, American Idol 2007 finalist, sang at the White House for First Lady Michele Obama in April. Now he will come to Novato to perform at the 7th annual Rock’n Blues By the Lake on Sept. 26.
Lewis is said to be one of the most popular Idol finalists. He’s the only idol that has a nickname because of his unique style, “the Beat-Boxer guy.” One of the most downloaded songs from the No. 1-rated television show is his version of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name.”
Lewis has a Novato connection that is unique to Rock’n Blues By the Lake. His first single, “Break Anotha,” was performed globally on Dick Clark’s 2007 Rock’n New Years Eve show. The song was written by two Novato parents, Louis Biancaniello and Sam Waters. This songwriting team has also written many other hits for other major recording artists. Both families have students in the Novato public schools, which is the sole beneficiary of proceeds from Rock’n Blues By the Lake.
Also performing at the show will be an upcoming local band called “Ganzz” comprised of Justin Ganz, Brad Dollar and Michael Biancaniello. Michael is a talented session guitarist who has played on Kelly Clarkson’s recent No. 1 CD titled “All I Ever Wanted.”
Early-bird discounted tickets for Rock’n Blues By the Lake are available now through July 5. Ticket prices now are $40 adults, $15 teens aged 12-18, and $10 children aged 5-11.
A limited number of special “Meet and Greet” tickets for Lewis will be available for $100. This ticket gives event admission plus an opportunity to meet Lewis and have a picture taken with him (bring your camera), get his autograph, and receive a special lanyard, pass and T-shirt. There will also be a surprise promotional item from Blake Lewis.
Ticket outlets are Red Devil Records, 894 Fourth St., San Rafael; the Marin Music Center, 1559 S. Novato Blvd., Novato, the Novato Unified School District office, 1015 Seventh St., Novato, and the Novato Farmers Market every Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm.

| Quote: | Wednesday, Jul 1, 2009 Blake Lewis beatboxes himself over to a new label Posted by Melinda Newman

Human beat box Blake Lewis has found a new home for his vocal stylings. "Heartbreak on Vinyl," (an interesting title given that there are probably Lewis fans who are going 'Que pasa vinyl?") comes out Oct. 6 on Tommy Boy Records.
The season six "American Idol" contestant has moved from Arista/J to Tommy Boy Records for the CD, is trying to make a dual statement with the title: express his love of dance music and his sorry over the demise of the traditional record store. Apparently, Lewis has spent years in da club.
"'Heartbreak On Vinyl' is the culmination of over 10 years in the dance scene - the music that gets me out onto the dance floor to lose my inhibition," said Lewis in a statement. "The title is an ode to all the record stores that have been closing down due to my industry eating itself. These are the stores that brought inspiration to all of us music lovers and have led me to make the music I create today."
Among Lewis's collaborators on the set are Rodney Jerkins, S*A*M and Sluggo and Dave Aude. First single, "Sad Song" comes out later this month. |
